Ring sound: .The sound of ring is strange when V.25bis async mode and sync mode. . RDL: .Can't initiate RDL with other vendor modem. (Note: if you want to use RDL with other modem, the "Main Channel" setting must be disabled.) . V.23: .V.23 backward channel can't transmit data. . D/V key for Default dial: .Default dial can't work when DTR doesn't exist even if the setting is "DTR ignored". .When the setting of pannel key is at answer mode, pushing D/V will still dial the default number. . Async none error control mode: .TxD LED is not light when modem transmits data. . DTMF generation function: (+VTS) .Use DTMF generation function will let modem hang. . Russian CallerID function: .Use Russian CallerID function will let modem hang. 2.) Added new features ---------------------- . 2-wire leased-line of U336S and U336R: .Set s121.0=1 will let the 2-wire leased-line transmit from dial-line port instead of leased-line port. (In this case, dial backup will not work) . Fixed modem bugs: --------------------- .V.13 HDX mode (only support for not V.34 mode) Set bit 5 of s44 equal to 1 (ats44.5=1) -> V.13 HDX mode can't work. .Leased line mode: In sync mode, drop the connection and then change "data format" to async, the connection speed is still 28800bps. You have to drop line again and then the connection speed will be back 33600bps again. .DTE speed: .Set s18 equal to an invalid value, the modem will hang. .It would appear some garbage after connection in sync or SD mode. .When the DTE speed > 230400bps, it can't use Zmodem send file in &K0&N0 mode. .Remote configuation: If you initial remote configuration for the second times, the modem will hang. .Link Layer: There are many retransmissions (the AA led will flash very often) when connects at low DCE speed. And it will cause the throughput low. .LDL: When initial AT&T3 LDL function from RS232 after connect, the remote site modem will show 2b/SREJ . .Dial backup: When two modems connected at 4-wire leased line with dial backup enabled, if the answer modem power on without connection at leased line, it can't detect ring. .*G2: It displays the wrong word. When answer site used *G4&k2 command. the originate modem will display "correc" after checked password . .Ring Detection: .If you dial a pulse dial from the attached phone ,sometimes the modem will false alarm to ring. .Sometimes the modem card on ZyXEL RS-1612 chasis will not detect ring. .LCD: U336S will not show "System testing" at initialization. .V.25bis command:(*I1) .The modem will auto answer after first ring even if s0 is not equal to 0 . .The modem will produce some garbage at sync mode when the modem rings. .Issue "CIC" command will let s0 equal to 2. .It will not handshake again after line drop at synchronous leased line mode. .Speaker: .The ringing sound is strange when sync mode (&m1 or &m3). .Sometimes the modem will not mute after connection. .NMS related bug: .The remote management from U336S to U336R via 2nd channel. If you transfer file and change the U336R's settings from U336S at the same time. The display of setting on U336R is different from U336S (Note: If you don't transfer file, it works fine). .The line status report of local is not different from the report of remote NMS system. .The HS (V34) LED display of remote U336S is not correct on ZyVIEW remote control appliation or on rack controller. .RTS LED display is not correct on ZyVIEW. .Reset from profile to dialup line mode from rack controller at leased line mode, it would fail to detect ring. .It would get some problem when U336S manage U336S for the second time. .The remote management via second channel with Sync mode. If you set remote modem U336S panel "Lock" from controller LCD panel remote icon. then you set "unlock" from U336S right , left key. The U336R controller LCD panel detect "Unlock" will cost long time about 10 mins. .When you set global slot and reset profile to factory default from controller. It would spend about 8 secs to complete global settings. .Can't change the value of S3-register from ZyView or Rack controller. .When you reset profile in U336S . The "remote Id" will eliminate and you must assign again. 2.) Fax releated bugs fixed: ---------------------------- .Issue ATD after connection will respond error in some country. .Improve the compatibility with Fax machine. .Fax Class 1: .If "AT+FRH=3" time out, the modem can't accept AT command anymore. .The modem can't quickly abort after issue "ATD" command. .The modem should respond "OK" instead of "No Carrier", after issue "ATH" command. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Release Note on ZyXEL's "G3" Modem series (= U-336R/RE, U-336E/S) Version 1.16 December 1, 1998 ================================================================= 1.) Fixed modem bugs: --------------------- .Diagonsitic: .TxD,RxD LED is not off in synchronous LDL mode. .ALB(ST) will abort if the temperature is too high. .AT&Tn, if n>=10, modem will not response error. .RDL: Sometimes the RDL will fail although the remote side already accepts RDL when the data rate >28800 bps. .Security: .call back (*G4,*G5) doesn't work in V.22 1200 bps. .*G2 function call back fail. .Link Layer: .V.42 compatibility problem with USR X2 modem. .V.42bis: Sometimes the modem will reset at high DTE speed and Low connection rate. .U336R/U336RE .Switch leased line to DL from Rack controller, the modem can't detect ring. .Set the DTE speed to 9600 from Rack controller and then reset from factory default the DTE speed can't back to 115200. .Physical Layer: .Fax mode: Can't connect 9600 bps speed. .V23 mode: Can't connect at 2WLL or DL mode. .V.22bis: It will appear some garbage right after connection at none-error control mode. .V.21: When remote side answer the phone quickly, it can't connect. .Issue ATZ4 from RS232 will response garbage if DTE speed is not 115200. 2.) Added new features: ---------------------- .Added eight non-changeable profiles (5-14). These profiles won't be active profiles. If you want them to become an active profile, you must load it first and then save it to profile 0 to 3. Fix modem bugs: ------------------ 1) Default power is always -11 dBm after hardware reset . 2) LCD operation for U336S: .Cursor is wrong positioned on LCD when entering network address from U-336S front pannel. 3) V.34 sync mode: .The modem will initiate retrain immediately after connection when the clock soure is from external device if the external clock is not applied to the modem during handshaking. .The internal processing delay is shortened. 4) When the remote side requests the additional power, the Tx Power level reported by the modem is not correct. 5) The simulated 2 wired lease line over dial up line can't connect in Russia. 6) Fax mode: .The connect speed is not correct for "AT+FDCC=1,2" or "AT+FDCC=1,4". 7) Sync V.25bis command bugs .The first command ack will missed out after power on or V.25bis setting. .S41.1=1 fail for mark idle. 8) Can't sense abnormal carrier drop in 15 sec at V.34 mode. 9) LDL and RDL related problem: .LDL may fail if there is no DTR exists. .RDL false alarm to End testing when connect speed >28800 bps. .Can't initial RDL at low data rate. 10) The connect message is always "V.33 14400" when s52=96 in non V.34 mode. 11) It would initial retrain or FRN in one day when bk-bk connection in V34 mode. 12) Ring detection problem in France. 13) It would initial retrain or FRN frequently when connect with Ascend Max terminal server (if it offers Rockwell K56.flex protocol) 14) Can't connect with V.90 modem by using V.34. 15) Fax mode: . Sometimes V.34 LED will not turn off in Fax mode. . Fax compatibility problem with software HylaFax when sending Fax. 2. Fix modem bugs: ------------------ 1) AT command bug: .ATZ4S0M0N0=1 should response error. .ATSr=n. When n is greater than 256. The modem should response error. .If you issue command 'ATM0L0',the modem will excute 'ATDL' command. .If you issue command'ATO26',the modem will excute 'ATD26'command. .The report for 'AT+FCLASS=?' contains voice mode. (But modem can accept '+FCLASS=8' setting for DTMF detection) .ATDxxxx@ will not report 'No Answer' when the remote side doesn't answer the call. .The AT comand string will not be exactly when the string length exceeds 14 characters while the DTE speed is 460800 bps. 2) Multi-Auto mode: .If the quality action setting of the modem is not 'adaptive rate'. The modem always connects at 33600 speed. 3) .The modem can't send NULL character in data state. 4) .The receive level reported by the modem is not correct. 5) V.32 related mode (V.32,V.32bis,ZyCelluar,Zy19k2,Zy16k8) .The second retrain will force modem to drop one speed. .The counter of retrain request and retrain granted are not correct. 6) .The waiting time is too long to initiate security call back. 7) .Dial backup function will fail when unplug U336R modem card and plug in again during dial back up mode. 8) .The modem can't work in N71 asynchronous data format. 9) ZyCelluar mode: .The modem may get carrier lost when typing 'ATO1' to initiate a retrain. 10) Sync (or Sync data) mode: .The internal processing delay is shortened at V.34 mode. 11).Modem would get carrier lost when connects with K56Flex modem. 12).Improve V.34 performance over bad line. 13).The modem is apt to initiate FRNs or retrains in V.34 2400 mode. 2. Add new feature: ------------------- 1). Set s58.4=1 will give up FSK mode (V.21, B103, V.23) in Multi-Auto mode. Using this bit can avoid the modem connects as FSK mode. 2). Set s12.7=1 will enable pseudo CD function in sync mode. 3). U336S LCD operation: .Add PANEL OPTION which contains a).PANEL LOCK (This option is moved from MODEM OPTION) b).LCD LIGHTENING (This option is moved from TERMINAL OPTION) 4). Remote management. The secondary channel uses V.34 200 bps AUX channel. It can only be established in V.34 mode. 2. The main channel uses the whole data bandwidth. The modem can't transmit or recieve data while the main channel has been established. 3. Fix modem bugs: ------------------ 1) Performance improvement: .The BER (= bit error rate) of V.34 synchronous external clock mode under flat channel is high. .Modem can initialize FRN one time only in V.32bis mode while the channel quality is degraded. .*Q3 function doesn't work in non-V34 mode. 2) U-336S LCD control panel related operation: .Press 'UP' arrow key twice will cause malfunction of LCD operation when the modem stays at leased line handshaking state. .The Tx power reported on LCD display is not correct when transmitted power is less than -10 dBm. .Sometimes the LCD of modem can't show 'LDL(ST)' and 'RDL(ST)' after doing 'LDL' or 'RDL' test. 3) Multi-Auto: .The modem will reset when the DTE speed of the modem is less or equal to 4800 bps and handshake with a V.22bis modem. .Sometimes the modem will produce garbages during handshaking when connect with a V.22bis modem. .Can't connect with non-V34 modem in sync mode. 4) .The connect speed will show twice in the connect message when the setting is X6 or X7. 5).The EDR function doesn't work. 6).The ATI12 report contains some spelling errors. 7).Sometimes the command 'AT&fe0v0' will response "OK" instead of "0". 8).Firstly, set the terminal with N71 async format and issue 'at&w0z0'. Then set the terminal back to N81 async format and issue 'atz', the modem will produce garbage. 9).Compatibility problem .Can't handshake with old Motorola modem. .Can't handshake with NEC 56K modem, Dynalink 56K modem. .Answer mode connection problem when setting s0=1 due to central office delay. 10).RDL test function: .modem can't initial RDL test from RS232 pin 18 and pin 21 .The throughput of the remote side (LDL) is not zero. .The DTR and RTS signal is not ignored by the remote side(LDL) 11).ATI0 report contains "NULL" character. 12).AT#REV=? will not response error. .AT#CLS=? will not response error.(Can't be detected by WinFax 8.0) 13).The modem will reset itself while doing remote configuration by LCD panel. 14).The RI LED is off when s0 is not equal to 0 . 15).V.34 If the remote side is in symmetric mode and the local side is in asymmetric mode, the modem will keep fall forward FRN endlessly if the local connection condition is better than remote side. 16).Improve the performance of V.34 mode on bad line .Correct the power drop problem of V.34 mode 17). The transmit level of V.22bis Gaurd tone is not correct. 2. Add new features: --------------------- 1). AT*Pn command: .Extend the valid range of n from 15 to 31. (It means the transmit power is ranging from 0 to -31 dBm) 2). For U336S: .Initial test function from LCD will clamp RS232 signal RxD. .Add remote control menu tree 3). Add clear down procedure in V.32bis mode. 3. Known Bugs: ---------------- In V.34 mode the 2400 bps connection is unstable and is apt to do FRN or retrain. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Release Note on ZyXEL's "G3" Modem series (= U-336R/RE, U-336E/S) Version 1.09 November 11, 1997 ================================================================= 1. Fix modem bugs: -------------------- 1) Compatbility: .Compatibility problem with K56Flex. .Cannot connect with RockWell by using V.34 3429 baud. .Cannot answer second call by using ZFAX. .Cannot do RDL testing with CODEX modem. .Support 'AT+fclass=Z' command in the U-336 series modem. .Modem will connect as V.32bis in multi-auto mode while the remote site is a V.34 modem. 2) Lesead line operation: .2WLL/4WLL keep in retrain state very easily when "Data format" ="Sync data". .The dialing procedure cannot be aborted manually in dial backup application. .Fail to do dial up connection while the U-336R modem is unplugged from the RS-1612 chassis and be plugged again in dial backup application. .Fail to do carrier lost detection in non-error control leased line connection. .The transmit power is incorrect in V.34 handshaking state. .When the dial back up mode is forced to be terminated, The modem can't go back to leased line mode. .Can't be abort before data state in V.34 mode. 3) RS-1612 related issue: .NEC and FEC reported from rack controller or LCD screen is always zero. .Cannot use the LCD control panel of RS-1612 to initate the RDL testing. .The leased line operation of U-336R/RE modem will be interrupted and be changed as dial-up line setting while doing global "ALB+ST" then "END TESTING" from the LCD control panel of RS-1612 rack system. .The S/N report on RS-1612 is not correct. 4) Diagnostic features .Fail to do RDL and LDL testing. .Fail to do RDL in synchronous mode. .Modem will hang in an unknown state while doing ALB, LDL then ALB .The RS-232 status and LED indicators are not obeyed the ITU-V.54 standard when doing RDL or LDL testing. 5) Performance improvement: .There are error happened by using V.34 3429 baud in synchronous mode BER testing when the channel spectrum is flat and the SNR is high. .Endless retrain. .The BER is 10e-1 under V.34 16800. 6) AT command and response: .Inactive timer s50 is useless. .The ORG LED is turned on while the "ATS0=1" command is entered in dial-up line application. .Fail to using the on to off transition of DTR to do dialing while the "AT&M1&D1*D1S48.4=1" or "AT&M2&D1*D1S48.4=1" command is entered. 7) U-336S LCD control panel related operation: .Cannot do semi-auto dial backup while the content of register s44=4 .The RTS and CTS status showed on LCD display screen and LED indicators are not consistent. .There are garbage displayed on the LCD screen when the right arrow key is pressed in four wire leased line answering mode. .LCD display can't change connect rate message after FRN or retrain. 8) Russia special features: .Cannot enter "AT+FRH" command in Russian CND mode. .Fail to detect busy tone in Russia. .The default transmision power changes to -9 dbm. 9) Fax : .The reponse of +FTSI ,+FCSI ... command lacks double quote mark. 10) Can't transmit file by using V.34 3429 baud 21600 bps link speed. 11) Initial reset from profile on LCD pannel when modem in ALB mode. 12) False connect at V.22 1200. 13) Fail to connect at V.34 4800 and V.34 2400. 14) Issue AT&F while modem initial V.34 clear down will cause modem to hang. 15) CD pulse off bug when S42.7=1. 16) Remote configuration: AT*Wab fail. The remote modem can't reset from profile b. 2. Add new features: -------------------- 1) AT command and response: Add a new ATI13 command: Issue "ATI13" command in V.34 escape state, modem will plot channel spectrum probed in V.34 phase 2. 2) U-336S LCD control panel related operation: .Control the LCD back light with the following ways: Leased line mode: a. The back light is always turned on when the connection is dropped. b. The back light will be turned off after on line 15 sec. c. The back light will be turned on immediately while any panel key is pressed. Dial up line mode: a. The back light will glitter when the ring is coming. b. The back light will glitter in handshaking state. c. The back light will be turned off after on line 15 sec. d. The back light will be turned on when modem hangs up. e. The back light will be turned off after the modem is idle 1 min. f. The back light will be turned on immediately when any panel key is pressed. This function can be disbled by LCD panel or by setting s61.1=1. But it can't switch back to leased line again. * U-336S model: - RDL or RDL+ST mode: If forcing the RDL or RDL+ST tests from the LCD panel and if the remote modem denies it, it will cause hardware reset. - If the line drops under abnormal condition, it will cause the modem to reset or hang. * Leased line mode: - If type any error AT command (such as "ATU") in handshaking state, then the modem will always reponse error after this command even if you type any valid AT command. - Sometimes it can't sense carrier drop in V.34 mode.
